18x12, acrylic ink on wood panel

This is one of the first works in this series. After returning home from a visit with her elderly parents in Germany, Belitz began to process her emotions around their aging and decline in her absence into these powerful and meticulously accomplished paintings. It illustrates Monique's contemplation of how we are all wandering up our own paths, at different stages in life; a child full of curiosity, a mother carrying her burden basket, grief and joy and exploration and finally, an old woman ready for rest.  There are stories in every inch of these paintings. Belitz seamlessly incorporates her Dutch folk telling heritage and her love for the Southwest in her work. They are at once traditional and contemporary in content and execution. These pieces are wonderful for children and adults to explore together and are certain to be family heirlooms.

A Place for Rest
